Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my telephone number?
Yes. Your line is simply transferred from your current telephone service provider to Sparta Telecom.
Will there be any disruption of telephone service during the transfer?
No. There will be no disruption to your service, the only difference you will notice is lower bills.
If there is a problem on my line who do I call?
Once your lines are transferred to Sparta Telecom you should call us directly, our UK based faults team work 24 hours a day. Should you call BT™ you will be told to contact your service provider, Sparta Telecom.
Am I charged for an engineer’s visit?
No. Although, as with BT, if the fault is not with your line and the problem is found to be your equipment or line inside your property then any site visit is chargeable.
What if I need new lines?
Sparta Telecom can install new lines and services. We simply arrange and manage the installation for you. An Openreach Engineer will arrive and fit the equipment accordingly if needed. A new line installation normally will incur a cost please see the packages for pricing and this is payable at the point of ordering. When the new line has been installed we will invoice you again for the first partial month plus the next whole calendar month, thereafter you will be invoiced monthly.
What about select services such as Call Waiting, Call Divert and 1571?
All of BT's line services are available to you through Sparta Telecom.
How long does it take to get connected?
It only takes a few minutes to sign up to Sparta Telecom. The actual time between signing up your account and your account being activated ranges between 14 and 18 days. If you have chosen a broadband bundle your broadband will be activated it may take up to 10 days to activate the broadband.
My present telephone company has cut me off, what can I do?
You can still join Sparta Telecom, we activate the phone line for free subject to a 18 month minimum agreement. It will take up to 10 working days to activate the line. Sparta Telecom will credit check customers, all we ask is that you pay your first invoice before you go live on our service - your first invoice will consist of the line rental and call/broadband plan charges for the partial days in the month of activation plus the next full month.
Can I have broadband on a Alarm line (BT Redcare)?
No. Since August 2003, the standard RedCare service from BT is not available on broadband lines with Sparta.
Where can I find out about your planned price increases?
Prices are under an 18 month guarantee so at this time when you join the price will be fixed. There are no plans to increase prices, but after 18 month if there are changes then you will be notified within 1 month of any change happening. The only time during a price guarantee, where your price may change is if there is a change in the VAT rate, in which case we would be bound by law to charge, whether this is lower or higher.
I've just signed up to switch to Sparta Telecom, What happens next?
In a few days we will write to you confirming your transfer date - this will be the date that the savings will start. We invoice monthly in arrears for the call charges and in advance for any rentals, packages and services. Monthly invoices are due on the 15th of the month.
